Best Fondue in Switzerland (2023 Edition)
Fondue season is finally almost back and we want to share our favourite Fondue Restaurants in Switzerland with you. Whether you are Swiss or not - Fondue is a definite winter tradition that should be enjoyed at least once a month during winter months! Some restaurants have also adapted to today’s needs and offer vegan and gluten free fondue options making it easier to enjoy this delicacy for more people.
One of the first things people think about when they think about Switzerland is Fondue but there are many varieties and options and it’s also easy to fall into a cheap tourist trap that will make your experience a little less magical. We therefore decided to make a selection of some of the best restaurants around Switzerland that have great Fondue, from Zürich to St. Moritz and from Zermatt to Geneva.

Veltlinerkeller - St. Moritz
Veltlinerkeller is one of those classic St. Moritz restaurants - cozy, loud and delicious. The fondue is really good and definitely worth it but there are also options for those who would rather eat something else (for example their pizzoccheri).

Suvretta Stube - St. Moritz
If you are up for a fancier fondue experience, Suvretta Stube is the place to go. Cozy, warm and super Swiss you’ll find delicious fondue and other Swiss specialties. The Stube’s chef Isaac Briceño Obando is also known for exotic accents inspired by Costa Rican specialities from his homeland

Schäferstube - Zermatt
Schäferstube has the absolute best fondue in Zermatt. The restaurant itself feels like an old Swiss cottage and you are bound to get the “real deal” feeling. Their raclette is also amazing and they serve it to you straight from the fire.

Riedstrasse 2, 3920 Zermatt
Chez Crettol - Zürich
By far the best Fondue you can have in Zürich. Chez Crettol is located in Küsnacht a short train ride from Zürich (5 min from Stadelhofen) and it’s definitely 100% worth the journey. The restaurant is quite old school and doesn’t have a website or an Instagram but is always full! Make sure to call in advance.

Chäsalp - Zürich
Chäsalp is a very special place to enjoy a delicous fondue as it is in a farmhouse and there are also animals running around outside which makes the atmosphere even more magical.
Perfect for: Dinner with friends or a dinner with your colleagues.
There are so many types of Fondue at Chäsalp that you migh get lost when reading through the menu but we suggest you go for the Moitié- Moitié or the Chäsalp Fondue which is their specialty. There are also other dishes for people who don’t like fondue.

Bains des Pâquis
Bains de Pâquis is one of our favourite spots in Geneva. Located by the lake this is actually a bath house so you can dip in the freezing water before enjoying a warm fondue inside.
Perfect for: Dinner with Friends - not fancy but a nice atmosphere (you definitely have to reserve in advance).
Pro Tip - try the Champagne based version

Restaurant Les Armures
Restaurant Les Armures is a super typical place to eat Fondue in Geneva. The restaurant is one of the oldest in the city and is housed in a 13th century building.
Perfect for: Dinner with Friends - not fancy but a nice atmosphere
Pro Tip: They like to tell how they prepare the cheese for the fondue so if you’re interested just ask!

Pinte Contheysanne - Sion
A place where fondue and great service are a must - Pinte Contheysanne is a great place to go if you are looking for good fondue in Sion. They have been making this delicacy since 1944 and you can tell they have become masters at it.

Château De Villa - Sion
Château De Villa is one of my favourite places in Sion. The location is absolutely stunning and their fondue is to die for. They have a huge selection of regional wines to choose from and an amazing raclette selection (they also do raclette tastings).

Le Grütli - Lausanne
Le Grütli is the place to go if you’re looking for fondue in Lausanne. My go-to here is the tomato fondue, something really special and definitely worth trying if you like fondue and tomatoes! Their normal fondue is of course also delicious.

Stadtkeller - Lucerne
Stadtkeller is not the fanciest restaurant in Lucerne but it’s 100% fun! They sometimes have live music & folklore shows and their fondue never disappoints. Come here if you’re planning a fun evening with friends.

Caseificio del Gottardo - Airolo
Do you want to eat cheese fondue right where cheese is made? The head to Caseificio del Gottardo in Airolo. The Caseificio is not near a city so you’ll have to take a trip from either Lugano or Zurich/ Lucerne or eat here when you are passing through the Gotthard. You can also visit the cheese factory and hike around Airolo.

Le Caveau is very cozy, traditional Swiss and welcoming. They have a nice champagne fondue to try if you’ve never had one and a great selection of wines. Their raclette is also very tasty and what they are known for originally.
